Questions and Answers about RESIDENCE ELEVATORS

Q. What types of elevators are available?

A. The most widely used types are Cable Drum and Roped Hydraulic.

Q. Which type of elevator is better?

A. Both types are safe and reliable. The hydraulic elevators have a smoother stop and start with more commercial elevator components and technology than the cable drum elevators. However, the hydraulics are usually a few thousand dollars more costly than the cable drum type.

Q. What can I do if I am in the elevator and there is a power failure?

A. Both the cable drum and roped hydraulic elevators can have a battery back up system to lower the elevator to the lowest level. Also all elevators are required by code standards to have a telephone.

Q. How does the sea air, humidity, cold or hot environments affect the elevators?

A. The elevator shaft and machine room should be constructed in order to limit extreme exposure. However, with proper maintenance and inspections, the elevators are designed to withstand these environments.

Q. How can I keep small children from using the elevators?

A. Key operation is available as well as custom control systems.

Q. What size car should I purchase?

A. Sometimes this is dictated by the amount of space available. However, a 36" x 48" or larger car is recommended in order to accommodate a standard wheelchair.

Q. What interior finishes are available?

A. Most manufacturers have a variety of choices as standard finishes. However, many custom finishes are also available.
